In the Carpathians of Romania you will experience an amazing ski adventure with us. The Eastern European country has embarked on a new path. The ski areas are developing rapidly and the medieval towns are definitely worth a visit. The literal highlight is a day of cat skiing and two helicopter rides. Other highlights include a visit to the Balea waterfall, the Peles castle and the Transsylvanian city of Sibiu. In a nutshell, another gem of a ski trip.
As always we are predominantly working with local partners and local guides. As a non profit tour agency we are supporting tourism in developing countries. That means that you will have a local experience and that locals have a decent income. Moreover do we help foster local initiatives to grow (winter)tourism.
Sinaia
Our journey starts on Saturday at 4:30pm from Bucharest Airport. Make sure you arrive there on time. Once everyone has found a place in the van we drive to our base in Brasov. We will stay here for 4 nights. After a proper breakfast head to the historic ski resort of Sinaia. The gondola takes us from the village to an altitude of 2100 meters in about 30 minutes. From there, the slopes stretch over the western flanks of the Carpathians. The runs are wonderfully well prepared. At the end of the afternoon we take the gondola back to the village. After a little drink, we return to the medieval city of Brasov.
Brasov
Brasov has centuries of history, the fortified city is located on one of the few thoroughfares from North to South Romania. The trading function is still clearly visible. We stay in the old town and have access to all sights from here. Moreover, the ski resort of Poiana Brasov is only a 20-minute drive away.
On Monday we discover the ski area of Poiana Brasov. This ski area has a vertical drop of almost 1000 meters. The descents are very long. Additionally, there are a number of fine freeride runs. From the top you can oversee the entire lowland plain of Romania. At the end of the skiing day, we grab a drink in one of the umbrella bars. It is surprisingly happening in Poiana Brasov.
The next day we take the gondola to Sinaia. We discover the more challenging, north facing slopes. If you are up for it we can do a little hike a do a freeride run. In the afternoon we will visit the monastery of Sinaia en the Peles castle. Our guide will share stories about the legendary Dracula castle and you will hear how Bram Stoker put Romania on the tourist map. In the evening we organize a local dinner in the center of Brasov.
Bâlea waterfall and Sibiu
In the morning we pack all our gear. We are moving to the west of Romania. First we drive a stretch of the Transylvania Highway. Described by TopGear as one of the most beautiful road trips in the world. In winter the road is only partially open. We drive to the Bâlea waterfall and make a short hike. In the afternoon we visit Sibiu, a beautiful city founded by Germans. The central square Piata Mare is on the UNESCO World Heritage List and is one of the best preserved historical centers in Romania. At the beginning of the evening we continue the last stretch to the freeride ski area of Muntele Mic. We will stay here for the next 3 nights.
Muntele Mic
The Muntele Mic freeride ski area was only recently created when a passionate group of young Romanians decided to revitalize this region. For several years now, a super-fast 6-person chairlift takes you to an altitude of 2000 metres. From here we have complete freedom to choose a descent. Both on and off the slopes. At the end of the day we gather in the wooden après ski hut on the slopes. The sun slowly sinks behind the mountains and we can ask the local DJ to play some tracks for us. The last descent is always a party.
Our last ski day is the highlight of our trip to Romania. You will be taken by helicopter to a remote mountain range. A Pistenbully is waiting for us here. This beast with 240 HP takes us to peaks in the area. We are in a comfortable, heated, cabin. Together we experience the wild mountains of Romania. The deep snow is accessible to everyone. So you don't have to be a pro freerider with avalanche equipment. At the end of the day we watch the sunset again from our favorite mountain hut.
Bucharest
On Saturday we drive slowly to the capital Bucharest. We have plenty of conversation along the way. We have experienced so much in the past few days. We sadly say goodbye to you at the Bucharest Airport Hotel. The hotel arranges a shuttle to the airport that matches your flight. If you have a late flight, you can even visit the city of Bucharest.

Michel– :
Romania is an undiscovered pearl in Eastern Europe. We went with a small group last winter. The ski areas are super modern. The food is delicious. And the icing on the cake was the helicopter ride. Thank you Peter and Cris.
