In the Accursed Mountains, a unique adventure awaits you. Cat Ski Kosovo combines culture with the immense hospitality of the local people. After a day full of adrenaline, you can enjoy traditional Kosovar dishes and the warmth of our cozy mountain hut. Cat skiing is a form of off-piste skiing where you are transported to remote mountain peaks by a snowcat. The pristine mountains of Kosovo provide the perfect location for this. You and local guides will decide which descent to take, offering ultimate freedom.

As always, we work predominantly with local partners and guides. As a foundation, we support tourism in developing countries. You get a local experience, and they benefit. Additionally, we help set up local initiatives in the (winter) tourism sector.

Pristina

After arriving at Pristina Airport, we head straight to the vibrant city of Peja. The charming city of Peja is your gateway to the Accursed Mountains. The bustling center is home to many coffee shops and local stores. After an extensive safety briefing, we prepare for a delicious local meal. The Kosovar cuisine is rich with fine herbs and delightful vegetables, often accompanied by a good piece of meat.

The real adventure begins the next morning when we drive to the quiet village of Decan (45 minutes). From here, your cat ski expedition in the Accursed Mountains unfolds. Get ready to ride in deep powder snow. The abundant snowfall transforms the rugged landscape into a paradise for freeriders. These majestic peaks, shrouded in legend, offer a perfect spot for those seeking the thrill of cat skiing and freeriding.

Decan

When the snow blankets the mountains, the mountains above Decan become an untouched playground for skiers and snowboarders. From the village of Decan, we drive another 15 minutes on a paved road before the off-road adventure begins. Depending on the snow line, we drive 20-40 minutes to the snowcat pick-up point. After loading the luggage, we drive the last stretch to the Gacaferi mountain hut. Amidst rugged mountain peaks lies our charming base for the coming week.

Cat Ski Terrain

With elevations ranging from 1600-2400 meters, this pristine landscape is a paradise for freeriders seeking untouched powder and thrilling descents. As the Pistenbully takes you higher, you are surrounded by breathtaking views. The varied terrain is suitable for intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders, featuring everything from wide-open bowls to challenging couloirs and tree runs.

At 1600 meters, the lower elevations offer gentle, powdery fields perfect for warming up and finding your rhythm. As you ascend to the mid-levels, the terrain becomes more diverse, with a mix of tree runs and expansive snow plains inviting you for first tracks. The higher sections, between 2000 and 2400 meters, offer steeper descents and rocky peaks. The high altitude ensures excellent snow conditions throughout the season, often with fluffy powder.

On bad weather days, we stay below the tree line. Visibility is much better there, and the wind has less impact. Additionally, the trees provide clear orientation for the guides, which is also important.

Cat / Pistenbully

At the moment, we have access to one Pistenbully 300 Polar and one backup Pistenbully 200. These beasts with 424 horsepower plow through the deep Kosovar snow with a blade. The comfortable cabins ensure that you can sit back and relax while the experienced driver takes you up the mountain. The ski equipment can be placed in the side compartments. Once the drop-off point is reached, the local guide will unload this equipment. Then you strap on your skis or snowboard and experience what cat skiing is all about. Once you reach the bottom, the snow cat will arrive to take you back up again.
