Ski Adventure Albania & Montenegro

Ski Adventure Albania and Montenegro – this is one of our most adventurous ski trips. In our favorite corner of Europe, skiing is just a little different from what you’re used to. No Almdudler, Anton aus Tirol, or chewy spaghetti for €20. Instead, get ready for rakija, snowmobiles, new ski resorts, and a remote mountain hut in the most secluded mountain range of the Balkans.

Plav is a picturesque mountain village in the northeast of Montenegro, nestled on the shores of the crystal-clear Lake Plav. Surrounded by the rugged peaks of the Prokletije Mountains—also known as the “Accursed Mountains”—this is a perfect destination for adventurous travelers and lovers of unspoiled nature. The village itself is charming and authentic, with a unique blend of Montenegrin, Albanian, and Islamic influences that create a truly special atmosphere.

Lake Plav forms the heart of the village and is a popular place for walking and relaxing, especially in summer. But this region also has much to offer in winter—particularly for ski touring enthusiasts. From Plav, you can embark on breathtaking ski tours into the surrounding mountains, with the Bogicevica massif being a true highlight. This wild, snow-covered valley lies on the border with Albania and Kosovo and offers an unmatched sense of freedom, silence, and deep powder.

One of the most spectacular ways to explore Bogicevica is by snowmobile drop-off. You’ll be taken to a mountain peak by snowmobile and, together with a local guide, choose your own descent route. Along the way, you’ll pass abandoned mountain huts, vast slopes, and occasionally even spot wild animals. And the best part: you can ski across borders into neighboring Albania and Kosovo. These unique transboundary routes make Plav one of the most extraordinary freeride destinations in the Balkans.

Ski touring in this region requires good fitness and basic avalanche safety knowledge, but the rewards are unparalleled. Plav offers rawness, serenity, and adventure in a way rarely found elsewhere in Europe. For those looking to leave the beaten track and experience the pure mountains, Plav is a hidden gem.
