Goderdzi, cat ski heaven of Georgia
Goderdzi is a revelation. The terrain. The snow. The views.
Located in the Adjara region, amidst the three-thousanders of the Lesser Caucasus, and less than 100 kilometers away from the beaches of the Black Sea, Goderdzi benefits from a westerly flow that brings record snowfall: nowhere in Georgia does it snow as much as in Goderdzi. This is the place to be.
Not too long ago, the president’s attention was drawn to this remote piece of land. It was quickly decided to turn it into a new and grand ski resort. Once the ball started rolling, there was no stopping it. However, the government forgot to arrange accommodations for the workers and technicians. In a rush, the old weather station at the highest point of the Goderdzi Pass was converted into a hotel. Fortunately for us, there’s no better place to stay than on top of a mountain.
The ski resort itself is in full development but is still in its infancy. Therefore, it is currently only interesting for beginners. Luckily, there’s such a thing as a PistenBully. This beast of a machine takes you to all corners and peaks of the area. The terrain is incredibly versatile with mellow tree runs and challenging couloirs above the tree line.
