Ski Safari Kazakhstan
Going on a Ski Safari in the south of Kazakhstan? That means that you will spend a week in the metropolis of Almaty and that you will experience the largest ski areas of the country. Of course it’s gonna be a mix of culture and local experiences. For example, we are going to visit the Charyn Canyon, the vast steppes and bustling local markets.
Ski Adventure Kazakhstan
This coming winter we are offering several ski adventure trips to Kazakhstan. Skiing in the northern Himalayas overlooking the metropolis of Almaty! Don’t expect boring nightlife, Wiener Schnitzels or German Schlagers. So what can you expect? Well, for example, brand new ski resorts, vibrant nightlife and a visit to the Charyn Valley.
Shymbulak Ski Area
In short
- Some 20 kilometers of slopes.
- A total elevation gain of 920 meters.
- The highest point in the area, the Talgar Pass, can be reached by ski elevator. Panoramic views assured.

Shymbulak in long
Starting in 1983, Shymbulak became the Olympic training center for the athletes of the former Soviet Union. During that time, many facilities such as restaurants and hotels were built and the area grew into the vibrant center it is today. The ski resort applied to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, but narrowly lost out to Beijing.
Shymbulak is the day trip for many Kazakhs living in Almaty. Away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. In both summer and winter, there are several activities to do in the area. In summer, you can rent a quad, zipline, climb and ride horses, for example. However, the area is more intended and made for winter activities. In winter, for example, you can ski there tremendously well, with its 20 kilometers of slopes. Further, you can try your best ski or snowboard tricks on a large air cushion or slide down the hill on a tire. All in all, there are plenty of activities to do where it doesn’t matter what season you come!
