The Kapachagai reservoir

The Kapchagai Reservoir serves to regulate the flow of the river while also being used to irrigate surrounding fields and for fishing. The wide sandy beaches found in Kapchagai, combined with Kazakhstan’s long hot summers, allowed the city to grow into the popular resort town it is today. It is loved by tourists as well as locals. Given that the former capital Almaty is just 80 kilometers from Kapshagay, many Almaty residents come there to spend the weekend or a short stay.

Kapchagai: relax by the water or in the casino
