Yurt camp for winter sports

In eastern Kyrgyzstan, 15 kilometres from the village of Ak Suu lies a fantastic yurt camp for winter sports. Thanks in part to Ryce Travel, there are now three winter-proof yurts. Yurts are traditional Kyrgyz nomadic tents used mainly in summer. Local people use these lightweight tents to build temporary shelters in the Himalayan mountains.

Yurt camp and winter sports

With a unique tent canvas, it is possible to use the yurts even in winter. Together with Slava, we were able to set up an impressive camp. Next to a small river, there are three large yurts, a sauna tent, a wood-fired Jacuzzi and a generator. The yurts are heated with wood stoves. We use the central yurt as a meeting place for winter sports enthusiasts. Here is the largest stove, a long table and a simple kitchen. Sleeping quarters have been created in the two smaller yurts. Outside, right next to the river, is a sauna tent. With a wood-burning stove, it quickly gets to 80 degrees. Fortunately, you can cool off in the snow or the adjacent river.

The yurt camp also has a jacuzzi. Meanwhile, all the ingredients are present to completely unwind after an intense day in the mountains. Around the camp, we also placed some playground equipment. For example, there is a giant swing, a slack line and a tree trunk to nail into. Oh well, there are two toilets, one for women and one for men. There is no running water, so everything disappears into a deep hole under the toilet bowl.

Slava and his friends worked hard to make it as comfortable as possible. The yurt camp is about 50 minutes by snowmobile from the village of Ak Suu. You can go up on or behind the snowmobile. We assure you that you will be in a completely different world when you arrive. Check out our video for an impression.
