For winter sports lovers, this country offers a truly unique and adventurous experience with a mix of ski resorts, touring and splitboarding options, and cat-skiing adventures. From the snowy slopes around Bishkek to the majestic peaks of Karakol, Jyrgalan, and Suusamyr, Kyrgyzstan has it all. <\/p>\n\n

Skiing in Kyrgyzstan, an unforgetable adventure!<\/h2>\n\n

Winter sports in Kyrgyzstan are a whole different ballgame compared to the Alps. The infrastructure is simple, the ski areas are limited, and that\u2019s exactly the charm. Here, it\u2019s all about untouched nature, extraordinary landscapes, and authentic culture. The Tien Shan mountains stretch across much of Central Asia and offer endless backcountry adventures. From the remote valleys of Jyrgalan to the high peaks of Suusamyr, you can often ski perfectly even in spring and autumn. The most accessible options are around Karakol and the Ak-Suu valley. In Jyrgalan and on the mountain passes, you\u2019ll find remote yurt camps where you can fully unwind after an intense day. Keep in mind: the mountains are rugged and challenging\u2014never venture out alone. Our highly experienced guides from the Kyrgyz Mountain Guide Association (KMGA) will lead you safely to the most stunning spots. <\/p>\n\n

Karakol Ski Base \u2013 A paradise for true winter enthusiasts<\/h3>\n\n

Karakol Ski Resort <\/a>is by far our favorite spot in Kyrgyzstan. Nestled at the foot of the Terskey Alatau mountains in eastern Kyrgyzstan, it offers over 20 km of groomed runs, extensive off-piste terrain, and breathtaking views of Lake Issyk-Kul. Skiers and snowboarders of all levels will feel at home here. Lifts start at 2,200 meters, and the Panorama lift reaches nearly 3,100 meters. Snow is guaranteed. Around Bishkek, smaller and accessible ski areas like Chunkurchak, Zil, Too Ashuu, Orlovka, and Kashka Suu are perfect for day trips or beginners, offering well-maintained slopes, a few lifts, and plenty of freeride and powder fun. <\/p>\n\n

Cat Skiing in Jyrgalan \u2013 adventure with our own snowcat<\/h3>\n\n

Although not officially a ski resort, Jyrgalan offers the best skiing facilities in Kyrgyzstan. This former mining village sits at 2,300 meters, with slopes rising above 3,400 meters. Ryce Travel operates a cat-skiing setup here, so you can easily explore the challenging terrain. There are plans to develop a full ski resort, but for now, we love enjoying these untouched mountains\u2014preferably with touring skis, a splitboard, or the snowcat. <\/p>\n\n

On horseback with a ski descent<\/h2>\n\n

One of the most unique experiences in Kyrgyzstan: ride a horse to the top, then ski or snowboard down. In the valleys around Karakol and Jyrgalan, horses carry you uphill while you descend on skis or a board. The guide gathers the horses and leads them back while you enjoy a fresh powder descent. <\/p>\n\n
