Buy original yurt from Kyrgyzstan?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From our local friends from Kyrgyzstan, you can now buy a traditional yurt. These were made in the village of Kara Koo<\/a> and consist entirely of natural materials (larch) wood and wool\/felt. The round tents are the original tiny houses of Central Asian nomads. You can now get your own<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have 3 sizes on offer. The smallest model (S) has a diameter of 5 meters and consists of 75 wooden roof poles. The middle model (M) has a diameter of 6 meters and has 85 wooden roof poles. The model (L) is the largest with a diameter of 7 meters and 100 wooden roof poles. Prices are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Included are the walls, door, roof poles, roof (tunduk), wicker mats, felt for the wall (2 sections), felt for the roof (2 sections), felt for the ceiling and the felt for the door. In addition, interior and exterior decorations are included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The frame of the yurts consists of 3 parts. The first part is the round wooden, pre-curved wall. The Kyrgyz call this wall “Kerege” and it’s the frame of all yurts. The second part are the wooden roof poles (Uuk). These connect the walls to the ceiling. The third section is the ceiling, the round construction (Tunduk) serves as an opening for daylight and can also be used as a stove exhaust pipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wicker mats are placed around the frame for insulation. Felt cloths are laid over the entire frame. The cloths are secured with straps so they don’t blow away. There is a separate cloth for the ceiling that you can open for daylight. You will have to build the floor yourself. In our yurts in Kyrgyzstan we have a heated wooden floor covered by local carpets (enquire us for colorful carpets).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No other reinforcements or screws are required for the construction of yurts. The incredibly strong wooden frame is further stressed by the weight of the felt cloths. The yurts can withstand heavy storms and rains. In the summer months you do not need a rain cover. It is important that the felt cloths dry thoroughly before deconstructing the yurt. You can clean the cloths with a steam cleaner. If you also want to use the yurts in other seasons, we recommend to use a polyester rain cover for the yurts. We also do this whilst skiing in Kyrgyzstan<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why should I buy a yurt?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The yurt has an important function in Kyrgyz culture. It has been the home for local nomads for centuries. There are many traditions involved. For example, the entrance is normally south-facing. If there are many people in the yurt then the rule is that you walk counterclockwise. The ceiling (the Tunduk) always stays in the family and passes from father to son. Larch wood is enormously strong, and yurts from Kyrgyzstan can last for decades. Therefore, it is a hugely sustainable place to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Europe, yurts are perfect for living, recreation and workshops. As a form of housing, the yurt is becoming more common. Moreover a yurt fits perfectly on a campground, as a bed and breakfast or as a temporary house. The yurt can also serve as a studio, workshop or conference room. Its round shape makes it incredibly cozy and it is ideal for focusing because sunlight enters only through the roof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do I build a yurt?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In Kyrgyzstan, they usually build a yurt within half an hour (with 4-6 people). Nomads used to move from place to place and yurts were being carried by camels or horses. You didn’t want to spend a full day just setting up a tent. In Europe, most buyers manage to set up the yurts in a 5-6 hours. Several instructional videos can be found on YouTube.
