This trips starts on Friday and ends on Friday
In 8 days we visit several ski resorts in Macedonia and Kosovo. Our guesthouse in Popova Sapka will be our base for the first 3 days. It’s a perfect way to get started and get acquainted with the snow again. After 3 days we move to Peja, situated in Western Kosovo. Peja will be our base for the snowmobile droppings. The area is breathtaking with mountain peaks up to 2600 meters and views all over Kosovo. Due to the adventurous character of the trip, we will not reveal everything. What you, however, can expect in any case is the following:
The journey starts in Skopje. After we welcome you at the airport we will drive you to the city center. Skopje is a strange city with a huge number of Neo-Classical buildings. The Macedonian Prime Minister Gruevski is in conflict with local residents regularly because of his drive the build. The result is as grandiose as terrible but at least interesting. Most of our time we spend at the north side of the Vardar river, in the old center.
The ski resort Popova Sapka is located 60 km from Skopje and offers the most challenge of all ski resorts in Macedonia. The highest point measures 2525 meters and the slopes go to 1700 meters. There are nice snow fields with nice vistas , but there are great freeride runs too. The most beautiful places of Popova Sapka will be shown to you in 2 days. Of course with a well-deserved après ski.
Depending the weather conditions we will either go to Popovo Sapka or Mavrovo. The second is situated in the stunning National Park of Mavrovo. You will ski with breathtaking views over the Mavrovo lake. The snow conditions are usually better in Popovo Sapka so we will decide on spot where we will go on the second day.
After the third night in Popova Sapka we cross the border to Kosovo. Although the country is not officially recognized by all countries in the world, you actually do get a Kosovar stamp in your passport. The ski resort of Brezovica is only 80 km away from Tetovo so we are there quite quickly. Many freeriders are devoted to Brezovica for the unique snow conditions and challenging slopes. It will be a bit more intensive this day. The lifts are slow and rickety however the runs are fast and smooth. Again, the lifts reach above 2500 meters. There are long red runs along steep cliffs. The experienced boarders and skiers are supervised by our local guide to discover the off-piste routes. At lunch and afterwards we see each other again.
Once the last lift is closed in Brezovica we continue to Prizren, the most beautiful city in Kosovo. After an hour of driving, we join for dinner and if you want you can do a short city walk. You will find many Ottoman houses and traditional mosques in Prizren but still there is a loose atmosphere with many pubs and restaurants.
After the dinner in Prizren we continue our drive to Peja, the most important city of Western Kosovo. The origin of the Serbian Orthodox Church is in this city. Therefore we will have a short visit to the monastery of Peja with its special frescos. Furthermore, Peja will serve as a base for the snowmobile droppings in the area. A giant snowmobile will bring us uphill, two days in different valleys. The experienced skiers can be pulled by the a robe and the others can sit on the mobile itself, together with the driver. These days will certainly be the most spectacular ones of the trip.
Together we will spend a nights in a mountain hut at an alititude of 2000 meters. From this mountain hut you’ll have goose bumps views all over Kosovo. In the evening, we light up the barbecue, start a campfire and see the night fall over Kosovo. All Kosovar problems in the past seem to lie miles behind us. This is the most peaceful view that we have ever experienced.
