Developing the skiing facilities in Montenegro
After the succesful trips to Macedonia and Kosovo, Peter has traveled through the Balkans. This region is still unexplored but the mountains have huge potential for skiing. The locals really want to develop the skiing in this region but the resources are limited. We have visited the local Ski Club and it was inspiring to see their passion for the ski sport.
To support their enthusiasm we have donated our drone to the Ski & Snowboard Club Bogicevica. Hopefully they can shoot some nice footage to show their potential to the rest of the world. Please check their Facebook page for more information.
Free skiing lessons for local kids
The school holidays in Montenegro last during the entire month of January. It’s extremely cold but there’s not a lot of things to do in the local village of Plav. The guys (and girl) from the skiclub Bogicevica give free skiing lessons to these children. In the Hoti mountains is a small skiing rope that transports skiers over a distance of 100 meters. The local government provides fuel and food to support the project. Ahmed Sabovic tries to provide enough skis and shoes but this is a big challenge.
At the moment there are just 5-10 pair of ski’s and some shoes. The children even have to share this equipment. Sometimes this is quite difficult because with the presence of around 100 kids it’s hard to manage everything. We try to support this project by receiving donations from ski rentals in France and Austria. Hopefully we can be in Plav next January to support the project directly. In the future we also like to organize tours in Eastern Montenegro, the opportunities are amazing. The local skiers and snowboarders of the Ski Club Bogicevica usually go tourskiing or splitboarding. We also like to support them with better equipment.
Last week we have been skiing ourselves in Montenegro. We have climbed the three border point at an altitude of 2300 meters by tour skis. We had to slog through 2 meters of snow but the view from the top was absolutely stunning. Esad Redzematovic was overly enthusiastic to guide us in the remote corners of Montenegro. It’s unbelievable to sence their passion for skiing. Till 2 years ago they just walked up the mountains, carrying the skis on their shoulders. They even didn’t have tour skis back then. Thanks to Picture Organic Clothing and Faction Skis they have received some second hand equipment. The guys of Picture, Lets be Nomads, Faction and Gear4Guides shot the amazing movie of In Gora here last year.0
