An unforgettable ski adventure is waiting for you in the mighty Caucasus mountains of Georgia. Runs passing the Gergeti Monastery, ultra-modern ski lifts and climbing the Goderdzi Pass by Pistenbully. Next to these special activities, you will meet the hospitable Georgian people, explore Bakuriani and relax at hot springs. Add the tasty Georgian food, and local wine, and you will have the perfect ski conditions. In 8 days, we will experience everything that Georgia has to offer.

As always we are predominantly working with local partners and local guides. As a non profit tour agency we are supporting tourism in developing countries. That means that you will have a local experience and that locals have a decent income. Moreover do we help foster local initiatives to grow (winter)tourism.

Tbilisi

The tour starts on Sunday in Georgia's capital city, Tbilisi. We will organise a city tour of the old town. We’ll visit the Dzveli neighbourhood and stroll through the narrow alleys behind the city walls. We will take the gondola to the Narikala fortress and explore the Botanical garden. By countless stairs, we’ll return to the old town. We’ll do a wine bar crawl in the afternoon and end up at our favourite local restaurant to end our first day in Georgia.

Tbilisi ski

Gudauri

The ski resort of Gudauri is the biggest in Georgia. It will be our playground for the next two days. In the last couple of years, the resort has experienced massive developments. There are nine chair lifts, and the highest one reaches 3279 meters. The vertical drop is almost 1500 meters, with a lot of exciting terrain that will keep us entertained. We will have a well-deserved drink in the local pub after skiing.

Gudauri ski resort

Stepantsminda

Our nights will be spent in the local guesthouse in Stepantsminda on the Georgian Military Highway; Stepantsminda is the last stop. It has terrific vistas of Mount Kazbegi (5.047 meters). The local family prepares tasty Georgian meals, and they will entertain us in the evenings. On the way back from Gudauri to Stepantsminda, you can opt to go parapenting or relax in the nearby Rooms Hotel.

Sunrise hike Gergeti

On the last morning in Stepantsminda, it’s optional to do a sunrise hike with us. We will ascend the Gergety Infinity Chruch at 2200 meters and wait for the sun to rise. After a brief visit to the church, you can ski/board back to the village (depending on snow conditions). After finishing the second ski day in Gudauri, we can rest a bit in the van before continuing.

Gergeti Georgia

Bakuriani

After the last day of skiing in Gudauri, we will slowly drive to another hidden gem in the Lesser Caucasus. A winding road will take us to a wooded mountain village called Bakuarini. Bakuarini is one of our favourite places for freeriding in Georgia. The trees are widely spread over pretty steep slopes. There is always some untouched snow, and the after-ski is legendary. Don’t expect groovy after-ski pubs but be prepared to have it chacha style. After a long day skiing, we will take a last freeride run to the former ski jumps of Bakuarani. We continue to the village of Bakuarini itself. It’s like a giant fairground attraction with bumper cars, shooting tents and local liqueur—perfect ingredients to have a lovely evening.

Goderdzi

The route will be breathtaking along our way from Borjomi. We cross Borjomi National Park and head to the Goderdzi pass at 2100 meters. This road usually closes in winter, so we have to transfer to a Pistenbully for the last part. The Pistenbully will take us to a mountain lodge outside the ski resort of Goderdzi. That’s the place where we’ll stay for the next two days.

The ski resort of Goderdzi is still in progress. There’s a lovely run from the brand-new gondola, but we will also use the Pistenbully for runs in remote areas of the Adjara region. It’s a forested area with a lot of powder. The Black Sea coast is not far away, giving the region higher precipitation than other parts of Georgia. The days in Goderdzi will be quite intense, but the country will undoubtedly leave you in awe. Winding tree runs and natural playful objects. We are looking forward already. During our shared meals, we will have enough stories to share.

Cat Ski Goderdzi

On Saturday, we will ski back to the van. It’s parked somewhere halfway on the Goderdzi pass. Unfortunately, it’s our last run of the week. But fortunately, we are not back home yet. We change our clothes quickly and head to Tbilisi. We will have a tasty dinner in a local restaurant on the road.

Back to Tbilisi

Once we’re back in Tbilisi, we’ll check in at our guesthouse. Of course, you can choose to enjoy the thriving nightlife of Tbilisi. We can evaluate our week of skiing and adventures with a chacha, wine or local wine. Georgia is one of the best countries in the world, not only for skiing but for many other things. We hope you are as enthusiastic as we are about the country.

  1. Fleur van de Geer:

We had an unforgettable trip to Georgia with Ryce Travel. Enjoyed this active holiday with our friends, the culture of Georgia and the crazy descents. Although conditions were not as we envisioned every day, Peter made quick adjustments to our itinerary and made it a unique holiday.

  2. Roos van de Geer:

Just after the covid madness, we made a trip to Georgia with Peter with a small group. I have often been on winter sports in my life, but this remains the most special. And is therefore not really comparable to your standard winter sports holiday. Georgia is beautiful and one big adventure. I also like how Peter pursues a social goal with Ryce. You come into contact with the locals a lot, which in my opinion makes the trip extra special!

  3. Miquel Eugster:

If you want something different than Schnitzels and jostling Dutch people in Saalbach, Peter is the place to be! We drove through the Caucasus with Peter and his very friendly and competent crew from Georgia for 10 days and it was a great experience from the moment we landed on Tibilisi! So don’t hesitate just book!

  4. Pieter Schreuder:

At the end of February 2023 we went to Georgia with a small group. The trip has met all my expectations. Adventure, culture, of course winter sports and off piste cat ski descents on virgin white snow fields. I can rest here for a while. Although, the next Ryce travel tours are already beckoning 😉
Also thought it was great that despite a group of only four people we could still do the trip. Hopefully many more people will follow our example to visit beautiful Georgia!

  5. Bram Visser:

That’s a bit of the tricky thing about this travel organization: once you have booked a trip and you already know after a few days that it won’t stop at this one trip. After Kyrgyzstan before the Covid, I just got back from beautiful Georgia, one of the most beautiful countries I’ve ever been to, especially in terms of winter sports. I think the best thing about Ryce Travel is that you can see and experience as much as possible in a short time. So really recommended!
