Ski Adventure Serbia and Kosovo

Ski Serbia & Kosovo? In the heart of the Balkans awaits an adventurous ski trip. An amazing journey to two interesting regions that have a love/hate thing going on. In Serbia we will ski in the large ski resort of Kopaonik. In Kosovo we climb a Via Ferrata and go for some Cat Skiing. To top it all, we finish in the freeride walhalla of Brezovica. As always, you can expect a good dose of adventure!

As always we are predominantly working with local partners and local guides. As a non profit tour agency we are supporting tourism in developing countries. That means that you will have a local experience and that locals have a decent income. Moreover do we help foster local initiatives to grow (winter)tourism.

Skopje

Immediately after arrival at Skopje airport, we drive to the ski resort of Kopaonik in Serbia. We will visit the city of Skopje on return (a week later). With a stopover on the way we join in the evening for a typical Serbian dinner.

Kopaonik

With its 24 ski lifts, the ski resort of Kopaonik is the largest resort of former Yugoslavia. It is a modern ski area with many charming mountain huts and restaurants. Of course we will visit a couple of them. The resort is really well maintained and there are over 100km of groomed slopes. We will take you to most of them. We will ski 2 days in this area and sleep in a pleasant guesthouse just outside of Kopaonik.

Peja

In the westernmost city of Kosovo, we spend most of our time. We will have to cross the border to Kosovo at Mitrovica.  Peja is of historical significance for Serbia because one of the first Serbian Orthodox monasteries was built here. We will take a look at the many frescos of this monastery. Then we hoist ourselves in a harness and do a spectacular Via Ferrata in the Rugova valley. After a traditional dinner we will prepare ourselves for the cat skiing. Early in the morning we will head to the border of Montenegro.

Via Ferrata Kosovo

Cat Skiing

Just outside the village of Bogë we spend the night in a traditional chalet with a wood-burning stove. The meals are provided by the nearby restaurant. It is de-li-cious. During the day we hop on and off the PistenBully. The PistenBully can go up the mountains with a maximum of 14 people at once. We ski/board down in (hopefully) deep powder. Don’t worry if you have little or no experience in deep snow, you can easily follow the tracks of the PistenBully. At night we return to the mountain hut to lay back, relax and get together around the stove. Time for some stories!

Cat Ski Kosovo

After the last day wof cat skiing we will drive back to the village of Peja. For many, this is the outdoor capital of Kosovo. It has a compact center and an amazing view of the (Cursed Mountains). We eat a delicious Kosovar dish and possibly do a small pub crawl. The next day we have to shine one more time.

Brezovica

We get up real early and head to the freeride ski area of Brezovica. This area is notorious for its steep descents and amazing freeride slopes. The chair lifts are rather old, but they safely take you to an altitude of almost 2500 meters. A number of slopes are groomed, but most of the area is off-piste terrain (imagine a white carpet of virgin snow). In Brezovica everybody can test their acquired skills from the past few days. At our favourite pizzeria we serve you the best Kosovar pizzas and we conclude the day in one of the après ski bars.

Brezovica Kosovo

Skopje

We continue down south, destination: Northern Macedonia. During this trip, you will visit 3 different countries. Since we are only skiing/boarding in 2 of them, we focus on Serbia and Kosovo. We spend our last night in Skopje. We try the best of Northern Macedonian cuisine and taste the local wine(s). For those who still have the energy can dive into the bustling nightlife of Skopje. The next morning is optional, usually the departure for flights are early in the morning.

  1. Lambert:

Great idea to combine Serbia and Kosovo. I twisted my ankle so unfortunately couldn’t do the cat skiing. But the Ryce crew still drove me up and I had an amazing day. Thanks guys!

  2. Ingrid Peeters:

Had a fantastic trip to Serbia and Kosovo. Never knew you could board there. Super friendly locals and made very cool descents. Half a meter of powder certainly helped 🙂

  3. Dennis te Kloese:

Thanks Bardhosh and thanks Donat for this unique tour!
